Remains of 30 Chinese martyrs in Korean War returned to homeland from ROK
The remains of 30 Chinese People's Volunteers (CPV) soldiers who lost their lives during the War to Resist U.S. Aggression and Aid Korea were returned to China on Friday from the Republic of Korea (ROK).
A Chinese People's Liberation Army Air Force Y-20 transport aircraft, carrying the remains of the martyrs and 267 items of related artifacts, landed at Taoxian International Airport in Shenyang, capital of northeast China's Liaoning Province.
After it entered China's airspace, the Y-20 transport aircraft was escorted by four J-20 fighter jets. Upon landing at the airport, it was given a water salute.
The remains will be laid to rest in a martyrs' cemetery in Shenyang, where a ceremony will be held on Saturday.
Chinese, U.S. teams to hold talks on TikTok and other issues
As agreed by China and the United States, Chinese and U.S. teams will hold talks on TikTok and other issues in Spain, a spokesperson with the Ministry of Commerce said on Friday.
China's position on the TikTok issue is clear and consistent, the spokesperson said. China is firmly committed to safeguarding the legitimate rights and interests of its enterprises and will handle the TikTok issue in accordance with the relevant laws and regulations.
The Chinese government attaches great importance to data privacy and security and has never requested, nor will it request, any enterprise or individual to collect or provide data located abroad to the Chinese government in violation of local laws.
Austrian president says to work with China to uphold multilateralism, promote peace, development
Austria is willing to work with China to jointly safeguard multilateralism and promote world peace and development, Austrian President Alexander Van der Bellen said on Friday.
Van der Bellen made the remarks when meeting with visiting Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee.
Asking Wang to convey his sincere greetings to Chinese President Xi Jinping, and recalling with pleasure his state visit to China in 2018, Van der Bellen said that China is Austria's important cooperation partner in Asia and ties between the two countries have maintained sound development.
Former chief justice Sushila Karki takes office to head Nepal's interim gov't
Nepal's former chief justice Sushila Karki took office as the prime minister of the interim government on Friday evening following KP Sharma Oli's resignation on Tuesday.
Karki was appointed to the post by President Ram Chandra Poudel and then she was sworn in by the president in the presence of foreign envoys and others.
Karki is keeping all the ministries with herself and her interim government is in charge of holding a general election within six months, according to the appointment letter read on the occasion.
UN General Assembly adopts draft resolution favoring two-state solution
The UN General Assembly (UNGA) on Friday adopted a draft resolution endorsing the New York Declaration on the Peaceful Settlement of the Question of Palestine and the Implementation of the Two-State Solution.
The UNGA passed the resolution by a recorded vote of 142 in favor, 10 against and 12 abstentions.
The New York Declaration, circulated at a high-level international conference held at the United Nations in late July, sets out an action-oriented pathway toward a peaceful settlement of the Israel-Palestine conflict and the realization of the two-state solution.
Israeli army continues intensified operation in N. West Bank for 2nd day
The Israeli army on Friday pressed ahead with a large-scale military operation in the northern West Bank city of Tulkarm for the second consecutive day, imposing tight restrictions on residents and carrying out arrests and searches, local sources said.
Local residents told Xinhua that the army lifted a curfew in the morning after it paralyzed nearly all aspects of daily life in the city on Thursday. However, shops and pharmacies remained closed, while movement was heavily restricted.
Israeli troops also raided residential buildings in Tulkarm's southern neighborhood, turning a house into a military post, demolished plastic greenhouses near the Tulkarm refugee camp, and tightened checks at checkpoints surrounding the city, they said.
