BEIJING, Nov. 18 (Xinhua) -- Here are the latest Chinese sports headlines from the past week:
1. China stages turnaround against Thailand in World Cup qualifier
China registered a comeback win in the opening match of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers Round 2 after it beat Thailand 2-1 in Bangkok on November 16.
Sarach Yooyen put the host ahead in the 23rd minute through a counterattack, but Wu Lei's slide-in and Wang Shangyuan's diving header helped China complete the comeback win.
China will next host South Korea on November 21.
2. China's first ever Student (Youth) Games concludes with superb achievements
China's first ever Student (Youth) Games concluded on November 15 with superb achievements in Nanning, capital of south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, according to the organizers.
Among all the 69 delegations participating in the open group, 54 have won gold medals and 64 have won medals. Delegations from the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region and Macao Special Administrative Region have won gold medals in equestrian events and swimming events respectively.
During the Games, 11 world youth records have been exceeded, one world record has been tied, and three Asian records have been bettered.
3. Two Chinese sports films awarded Guirlande d'Honneur at 2023 FICTS Fest
China claimed a 3-0 victory over Brazil in the women's semifinal of the 2023 World ParaVolley (WPV) Sitting Volleyball World Cup in Cairo, Egypt on November 17.
China, who had already qualified for the 2024 Paris Paralympic Games, notched a narrow 25-23, 25-21, 25-23 victory over their strong opponents.
China will contend for the title on November 18 with Canada, who beat Germany 3-0.
5. Beijing Winter Olympic champion Gao on way back to top form
Beijing Olympic Winter Games titlist Gao Tingyu is striving to find back his top form, finishing first in the men's 500m Division B at the ongoing Speed Skating World Cup in Beijing on November 17.
Gao clocked a winning 34.87 seconds in the morning session, improving from 35.02s at the China Cup on November 11 in Harbin, which was his first competition in 21 months after his 500m victory at the Beijing Winter Olympics.
6. Chinese Olympians back to rink with persistence, devotion for figure skating
Chinese figure skater Peng Cheng highlighted her comeback to the rink with exquisite skating show-off at the Cup of China, the first ISU A-class tournament for the three-time Olympian and her new partner Wang Lei.
Teaming up in March, 26-year-old Peng and Wang, already 35, claimed a bronze in Chongqing on November 11 on their ISU Grand Prix debut.
Jin Boyang and Zhu Yi, both China' Olympians at Beijing 2022, also made their ISU GP comeback at the event after more than a year-long absence from competitive figure skating.
